Tuesday’s #SocialMedia Tool – OptinMonster

Social Media Tool (2)

At a recent social media conference, a speaker was introduced as having over ONE MILLION GooglePlus followers. Wow. What was interesting is that the first thing she said was that she would trade the whole lot for 3,500 good email addresses of people who want her service. Email newsletters may be crowding your inbox, but they are still a great way to reach consumers.

I’ve been reading a lot about OptinMonster and decided to give it a try. Normally I’m game to try any social media tool, but this one is not FREE. Still, everyone raves about it so I coughed up the $49.00 for the basic version. The things I do for you people!

What does OptinMonster do? From their website:

OptinMonster is the best lead-generation plugin for WordPress that allows you to create attention grabbing optin forms that convert.

So, basically if you have a newsletter, OptinMonster is a great way to convert website readers into subscribers. The $149.00 dollar plan has a neat feature that allows the form to show up just as users are going to the X to leave your site, but since I didn’t actually HAVE a newsletter, it seemed foolish to spend that kind of money. My version pops up within the first few seconds a reader first visits my site.

Review: The installation process was very easy. I paid, then downloaded the plugin. Then it was a simple process to upload it to my wordpress site and activate it. I chose a form from the template, edited it, then input my newsletter information. As I mentioned, I didn’t have a newsletter, so I went to MailChimp and signed up for their FREE plan. OptinMonster syncs the optin form with my newsletter so that when people subscribe, their information automatically gets added to a preassigned list. The only issue I had was when they asked for my API number. It took about 30 seconds to find on MailChimp (Profile:Extras,FYI) and I was up and running. The whole process – paying for OptinMonster, installing it, signing up with MailChimp took about 30 minutes.

Will it work? Time will tell, but if newsletters are a part of your marketing plan, OptinMonster could be the social media tool you’ve been looking for!

(My book launch is just over a year away. When I get a little closer, I’ll probably upgrade to the $149.00 plan.)
